Procol
reconvene and record The Prodigal
Stranger with co-writer
Matt Noble and other strangers. Henry
Spinetti (ex-Clapton, Brooker solo albums, etc)
drums on one track; Southender Dave Bronze
is on bass, and Big Country's Mark Brzezicki takes on the drum throne. |

By 1989 Brooker has already demoed some

Spinetti and the returning Tim Renwick on guitar: this line-up might almost be considered a
generation itself. |

Tim Renwick
really does return for the American leg of the Prodigal
Stranger tour. The tour takes in prominent
'live' spots on national TV: David Letterman (with just
Gary and Matthew, backed by the
house band), Hollywood Tonight etc.

In 1993
Mark Brzezicki temporarily returns to his former
outfit, Big Country. Ian Wallace (world-class
drummer, two years of touring with Dylan) joins
Procol for the 1993 tours. Josh Philips (former
Big Country and Midge Ure) is their auxiliary
Hammond man. This outfit plays three gigs in
June supporting Jethro Tull in Germany. |

This line-up
goes on a North American tour, chronicled by the
Commander himself. Returns to UK's Cropredy Festival on 11
August. Many feel that Graham Broad, top session
drummer, has something of the BJ touch. |

PH then wow the UK
faithful at London's Shepherds Bush, where
they last played in 1977; next come two Danish
dates, then six ill-advertised UK gigs (Whitehorn
calls it 'the bucket-and-spade tour'). |

PH receive

In late 1999, Brooker promises that
"Procol will play in 2000" ... September duly sees fans fly from all over the
world for a golden
late-summer open-air gig with the New London Sinfonia. This
line-up, though all seasoned Procolists,
presents a fresh combination ... |

Then
in May 2001 a settled line-up plays
a summer
tour of nine gigs in Denmark,
Norway, Poland and Russian (the Kremlin!), plus a fine UK concert with the Hallé Orchestra and
Choir, in Manchester, and 'Palers'
gather for new parties and musical
celebrations in Manchester as well
as Kristiansand in Norway. |
Procol Harum 21 |
May 2001 -
|
Procol play at Hell, Norway, in September (the Blues Festival); December gigs follow in Warsaw, Horsens and Copenhagen. 2002 sees gigs in UK, Denmark and Poland; 'Palers' gather to celebrate exactly 35 years of chart-topping AWSoP in May at the gig in Croydon, Matthew Fisher's home town. |
