Laurence Cottle

Please mail us with any further information

Laurence Cottle, bass-player with the Mike Oldfield Band, was Gary Brooker's bass-player on the 1993 'Rock Meets Classic' tour on which occasion the band included Henry Spinetti, Gary, Geoff Whitehorn, and Matthew Weiss, musical director, on organ.

Laurence had previously played one Procol Harum gig, as Frans Steensma explains:

On August 15, 1992 Tony Ashton, Chris Farlowe, Eddie Hardin, Miller Anderson, Dick Morrissey, Zoot Money, Cozy Powell and Spencer Davis all flew to Thun in Switzerland to celebrate York's birthday. They played together for most of the evening. It was only after this party was finished that Procol Harum took the stage, who played a regular 14 songs set. You can compare it to Cropredy: Fairport also invited Procol and the same went for Pete York. Cottle was there because Bronze had a scheduled gig with the Hamsters.

Laurence is the brother of Richard Cottle, session keyboard player in high demand. As might be expected, there's a lot about Laurence at Miguel Terol's superb Musicians' Olympus.
