What was new at 'Beyond the Pale'

March 2006

March 31: Happy Birthday Henry Spinetti (1951) Seven weeks until Gary Brooker and Friends play Chelmsford Cathedral; Procol Harum play in fourteen weeks' time at Lulworth Castle

Added the fifth and last in the series of screenshots of Procol Harum in 1976 in the famous Rockpalast broadcast  (thanks, Larry)

Find your Procoholic neighbours and have fun with the Procol fans' world atlas ... now showing 360 names and counting ... and add your own name, town, or favourite lyric. To show all the PH fans living nearby you might have to click a few times on the link that says 'Show rest of markers' under the Procol map.

March 30: Happy Birthday Dave Ball (1950)

The snag with bidding for Isle of Wight Festival tickets at this stage is that the Red Funnel ferries to the island are also sold out.

But if you still want to see Procol Harum play, you have a few more hours to place a silent bid in the special ticket auction in full confidence: here's why.

Procol's Josh Phillips has arranged for the winners of these IoW tickets to be taken out to the Isle in a vessel like the one pictured left. Thanks to Simon at SAL Marine Lymington, the lucky winners will be whisked out there (and back, afterwards) in a very fast inflatable like the Royal National Lifeboat Institute uses ... an eight-minute journey!

This of course makes the Festival experience even more special (thanks, Josh)

Added another illustrated newspaper article about the forthcoming Symphonic Procol gigs in Denmark, which are going to be enormous (thanks, Henrik)

March 29:

Added a setlist of slightly mysterious provenance ... have a look at the evidence in the links supplied on the page and let us know what you think (thanks, Verbjorn)

NB: regarding the auction for Procol tickets... please be aware that the timings indicated are in GMT ... UK time.

March 28:

Yes, the Isle of Wight Festival is completely sold out. But if you still want tickets to see Procol Harum play to many, many thousands, you should urgently visit this special auction BtP page ... which promises many other excellent bargains beside, and all in a worthy cause (thanks, Josh)

March 27:

Added a page of photographs taken at the Gary Brooker and Friends concert in Southend that followed the Paramounts reunion gig last year (thanks, Axel)

March 26: RIP Buck Owens

Added a fascinating and probably controversial review of 1969's A Salty Dog album by the man who was to join the band directly after its release (thanks, Chris)

On the eve of his new TV series in the UK, the Palers' Project's Derren Brown has just survived his third summons from the Broadcasting Regulator. Listen to a good radio feature on him by clicking here ... you can scroll RealPlayer forward to the Derren Brown segment, which runs from 28:45 to about 36:00.

March 25: Procol Harum play in nine weeks' time at Lillehammer, Norway; twenty-one weeks until their two consecutive gigs at Ledreborg Castle in Denmark

Added pictures from the Ledreborg venue and started a page with press information (thanks, Jens)

Added an English version of the Ledreborg poster (.pdf file) (thanks, Jens)

This symphonic weekend at Ledreborg Castle is part of a series that sells out every year. Good that 20,000 people will hear the band! So if you plan to go (and to the Palers' Revels too), you will need to book your Procol tickets without delay. More advice about this matter is here.

March 24: Eight weeks until Gary Brooker and Friends play Chelmsford Cathedral; Procol Harum play in fifteen weeks' time at Lulworth Castle

Added an interesting twin memoir of early Procol shows in the USA (thanks, Gil)

March 23:

Added a press release from Danish Radio that foretells the coming of Procol Harum, and of The Palers' Band, to Sjælland in the summer (thanks, Henrik)

Webmasters and journalists in Denmark continue to publicise Procol Harum in excited anticipation of the big orchestral shows in August: see here, here and here, for example (thanks, Henrik)

Find your Procoholic neighbours and have fun with the Procol fans' world atlas ... now showing 340 names and counting ... and add your own name and town. To show all the PH fans living nearby you might have to click a few times on the link that says 'Show 100 more markers' under the Procol map.

We understand that Procol Harum's symphonic weekend at Ledreborg Castle is part of a series that sells out every year. Good that 20,000 people will hear the band! A year ago today Procol Harum played in London, a concert with some rare gems in it, including a complete performance of In Held 'Twas in I with the participation of Keith Reid. Added a page of hitherto unseen illustrations (thanks, Monocular One)

Have another look at Cameron Devlin's review, Charlie Allison's review, Richard Solly's review, Gilles Mauron's photos and Mirek Plodzik's review, to say nothing of the party souvenirs from Alan Garmonsway, from Unsteady Freddie, from Gilles Mauron, from Bengt Mjöberg, from Jill McMahon, from François Courvoisier's, from Martin Awsop, from Martin again, and from Jens Anders Ravnaas ...
