Rock-legend at the Danish Broadcasting Corporation Castle concerts 2006 In 1972 [sic] legendary English rock band Procol Harum performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra with large-scale versions of some of their best-known songs. This made the group part of rock-history with the million-selling live album: Live in concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. This summer they will again be performing backed by a symphony orchestra. It happens at this year's Danish Radio Castle Concerts 2006 on August 19 and 20 at the Ledreborg Park. You might as well start looking forward to listening to rock-legend Procol Harum, led by Gary Brooker, performing classic rock-masterpieces like A Whiter Shade of Pale, Conquistador and A Salty Dog backed by the DR Promenade Orchestra and the DR Choir conducted by David Firman. Procol Harum has only performed with a symphony orchestra on rare occasions in spite of the fact that it is the perfect match for their music. It has never happened before in Scandinavia. Procol Harum was founded in 1967 by singer, pianist and composer Gary Brooker and lyricist Keith Reid with origins in the rhythm-and-blues band "The Paramounts". During the years the group has had changing personnel, and today the band-members are besides Gary Brooker: Mark Brzezicki (drums), Matt Pegg (bass), Josh Phillips (Hammond organ) and Geoff Whitehorn (guitar). The group has released more than a dozen albums and a couple of DVDs. In addition to that there is an enormous number of 'Greatest Hits' and other forms of compilation-albums. Before Procol Harum takes the stage just as classic songs are to be heard, this time performed by Povl Dissing and Benny Andersen. Svantes songs. They too will be performing with the DR Promenade Orchestra and the DR Choir. |
