Riga Music Bar, 228 London Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, SS0 7JG, informs us of an interesting one-off Southend gig, to be held on Saturday 13 October 2001, to mark the retirement of Mick Brownlee, who played in the early Paramounts. See a picture of Mick with Gary Brooker and Chris Copping.
It's been confirmed that Gary Brooker is going down there to play a few numbers and jam, and hopes to dig out a few exceedingly early numbers from the Paramounts' repertoire, from the time when he and Mick played together. Gary imagines that there will be other people like Tony Sumner there, and some of the other 'Rockafellas' playing; he thinks that Mick is sure to ask Dave Bronze too. Another guest will be Southend's legendary Mickey Jupp.
Palers living in the vicinity will doubtless be interested in going to this: tickets are very limited, with only one hundred being on sale to the general public @ £7.00 each + £1.00 booking fee. They are on sale now and are available with Visa/MasterCard/American Express. Their email is riga@bun.com tel: 07768 016 116 or 01702 348020.
