It's Not Too Late
Sadie was a girl who said that
Only love is real
Till the man from IBM* made her a better deal
She said
* In 1974 IBM was about the biggest industry in the world. It has since fallen on hard times.(MF, March 2000)

"It's not too late, it's not too late to change my mind
No it's not too late, it's not too late to change my mind."

Harry was a night watchman
But the job just didn't pay
Found it paid a whole lot more if he looked the other way
He said

"It's not too late, it's not too late to change my mind
No it's not too late, it's not too late to change my mind."

Ah yeah
Say goodbye to everyone
Everyone I knew
I think I'm beginning to learn
And I know what I gotta do

Because it's not too late, it's not too late to change my mind
Ah no it's not too late, it's not too late to change my mind

Oh no it's not too late

Not Her Fault

I packed my bags this morning just as soon as she had gone
I could have told her yesterday but I guess I'm not that strong
So I've left a note to tell her I wanted to be free
She'll find it on the table right beside my front door key

And I never meant to leave this way but I had to leave somehow
So tell her not to worry 'bout me, it doesn't matter now
And when she asks you why I've gone, and why was I so cruel
Won't you make her understand it's not her fault at all
It's not her fault at all

Tell her that I really tried but couldn't see it through
I'm sorry that I made her cry, but what else could I do?

No I never meant to leave this way but I had to leave somehow
So tell her to forget about me, it doesn't matter now
And when she asks you why I've gone after all this time
Won't you make her understand it's not her fault but mine
It's not her fault but mine

Taking the Easy Way Out

When I look back it sometimes seems
That my whole life has been a dream
I'd like to kid myself that it all turned out the way I planned it
But I just floated with the stream

And so my mind is filled with doubt
I wish I knew what it's all about
"You gotta make up your mind and stand by what you say," they told me
But I just took the easy way out

And time goes by it seems so slow
And after a while you just don't know
How far you've gone or if you're heading in the right direction
Or where you were a week ago

And so my mind is filled with doubt
I wish I knew what it's all about
"You gotta make up your mind and stand by what you say," they told me
But I just took the easy way out

And when you know that something's wrong
It's all too easy to play along
And keep on waiting for somebody else to solve your problems
But you'll be waiting pretty long

And so my mind is filled with doubt
Wish I knew what it's all about
"You gotta make up your mind and stand by what you say," they told me
But I just took the easy way out

She Knows Me

She says she's not an angel
But I believe she's wrong
I sometimes wonder how I lived
The years before she came along
And when my troubles get me down
I know she'll always be around
And when life treats me unfair
I can take it out on her

But she knows me so well
That I guess she can tell
That I'm just angry and I don't really mean it
'Cause she knows me so well

And sometimes when I'm lonely
I start to wonder why
When I'm really mad at someone else
Do I have to make her cry?
And so I call her on the phone
To let her know I'm coming home
Thinking if I wait too long
I'll get home and find she's gone

But she knows me so well
That I guess she can tell
That I'm just angry and I don't really mean it
'Cause she knows me so well

Yes she knows me so well
And I guess she can tell
That I'm just angry and I don't really mean it
'Cause she knows me so well

It's So Easy

Can you still remember that very first interview
After they'd tested you so they could find out your IQ
And now before they made that last selection
They thought they'd like to ask you a couple a questions

So now
Tell us what books you've read and what do you do in your spare time
And what do you wanna be in seven years or more
Ooh it's so easy if you understand the questions
It's so easy if you already know the answers
It's so easy if you've heard it all before

And then a few years later they told you you were free
Another interview and a few more lies is what you need
But now the old replies aren't too reliable
It's no good saying "Shakespeare" and "The Bible"

When they say
Tell us what books you've read and what does your old man do
And where do you want to be by the time you're 34
Ooh it's so easy if you understand the questions
It's so easy if you already know the answers
It's so easy if you've heard it all before

So now you've burned your bridges, you gotta keep on going
But where it's all gonna lead you've really got no way of knowin'
And now you find you're livin' with a curse
'Cause all the time the questions get worse and worse

So now
How do you like your job and how do you like my daughter
Say goodbye to that girl of yours and you can be my son-in-law
Ah but it was easy when you understood the questions
It was easy when you already knew the answers
It was easy when you'd heard it all before

Do You Still Think About Me

It could have been better, it could have been worse
But I'm not complaining I knew from the first time I saw you
That sooner or later you'd have to say
"I've made up my mind and I'm leaving today,"
But I wonder how you made out without me
And if you still think about me
Oh, do you still think about me?

Oooooh ...

Last time I saw you was so long ago
I guess I could call you but I just wouldn't know
What to say to you
'Cause I didn't know when it all had to end
It was easy to love but it's hard to be friends
So I wonder how you made out without me
And if you still think about me
Oh, do you still think about me?

Oooooh ...

You with your temper and me with my pride
We could have been happy if only we'd tried
Oh but it's too late now
Some people say true love is just like a song
Well the words were all right but the music was wrong
And I wonder how you made out without me
And if you still think about me
Oh, do you still think about me?

And I wonder how you made out without me
And if you still think about me
Oh, do you still think about me?

Cold Harbour Lane

It seemed so easy those few months ago
When I had everything to gain
Well I thought I'd escaped but I left it far too late
So I think I'll go back to Cold Harbour Lane

Her father sits with his head in his hands
And her words echo round in his brain
But there's just no other way and he knows he'll have to say
"It's time we took you to Cold Harbour Lane."

See the people in the stations every day
Standing waiting for the train
But if you look in their eyes then you'll quickly realize
They're only going down to Cold Harbour Lane

Matthew Fisher told the author of these liner-notes that he had selected the name Cold Harbour Lane from the London A–Z. There is a Coldharbour Lane (note the different spelling) North of the Thames

I'll Be There

He'd made his money and he'd had his fun
Thought he'd made a fool out of everyone
Yeah. he'd lied and cheated his way everywhere
One day thought he heard a voice calling "I'll be there"

I'll be there to see you down without a friend
I'll be there to see you get yours in the end
I'll be there

You might be in real estate or maybe sell used cars
You might be a president or a movie star
Yeah, but if you think you've got it made you better just take care
One day you're gonna hear that voice calling "I'll be there"

I'll be there when you've got nowhere left to run
I'll be there to see you pay for what you've done
I'll be there

I'll be there to see you wriggling as you burn
I'll be there to give the knife an extra turn
I'll be there

I'll be there, yeah I'll be there
Ah, don't you worry now, I'll be there
Just look over your shoulder and I'll be there
You just bet that I'll be there ...
