Rhythm Kings in Ipswich

Pam Quinn

It seems a while back now but the memory of a fantastic night of music is still with me. My friend (who prefers to remain anonymous!) and I were like middle-aged groupies as we got ready to go to the Regent in Ipswich, anticipating perhaps a meeting, for old time's sake, with Gary afterwards.

Performances from all members of the band were superb and I can still feel the tingles down my spine from Beverly Skeete's I Put a Spell on You with the incredibly sexy saxophone accompaniment!

The other highlight of the evening was when Gary sang a solo rendition of A Whiter Shade of Pale. It was beautiful, you could hear a pin drop and I wiped away a tear as I thought who perhaps could have been on stage with them. Meeting Gary afterwards rounded off the evening nicely.

Thanks must surely go to Bill Wyman, (who apparently, lives in a mansion close to where I work as a District Nurse in the heart of Suffolk!) for having the insight to put together such a superb and professional group of musicians.

I believe that a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all, audience and performers alike.
