REGRETTABLY THIS IS ALL CANCELLED (thanks, Covid 19)
Opening for Procol Harum at a public concert is going to require us to be
quite tight!
Rehearsal space in London is exorbitantly expensive, so BtP has taken the
decision to move out of the city while we get our act together, then move up
to town for the performances. This is exactly what we did in 2007,
rehearsing in Southend-on-Sea (the cradle of Procol Harum) and migrating to
St John's Smith Square.
This time we're moving out to Guildford – a very attractive city some nineteen miles from the 4 July venue. It officially forms the south-western tip of the Greater London Built-up Area. Currently home to Gary Brooker, it's also the place where the Palers' Band first played (September 2000).
Our 2020 rehearsals will take place (not far at all from the birthplace of Eric Clapton) in the well-equipped room Procol Harum normally use (by kind agreement with The Commander, who describes it as 'Up a hill, behind a bush'), and we'll be staying in a Grade II listed building (haunted by a soldier, a naval man, and a nun who smells of lavender) on Guildford High Street. Rates for a good-sized room there are considerably lower than we'd pay in London, and BtP has reserved all the available accommodation in the hotel, so we can all stay together and socialise in the downtime, as well as meeting to discuss progress, set goals, etc.
So you don't need to seek out your own accommodation for the rehearsal period.
