'Too Many Poets'

Brolly (U. M. Brella)

The song lyrics below are to Brolly, a previously-unrecorded companion piece to Purcal Hairem's second smash single, Fedora. Says Keifer Reed: "Robert Tower has told me he might once again rejoin the band one more time, give up the guitar, and simply hold the umbrella onstage." "That used to be my job," adds Reed.

Note: lyrics appear below for the first time ever. The "lost" 3rd verse is so lost that Garth Booker has never sung it, and Reed disavows ever having written the word "moistness" in any context!

A tribute to that guy with the umbrella! (c) 1967 Greybeard Music Ltd.

Key to authors' pseudonyms

Your multifoliate garden plants
Have shed their leaves and died
Leaving only dried out rootlets
That have made your gardner cry
The sprinkler, on reflection
Has climbed back into the shed
For this drought is all too doubtful
And the garden hose has fled

   Your raincoat flaps are open
And your rubbers wait in vain
You'd better get out your brolly
'Cause the forecast calls for rain

Now the rain gauge at the airport
Says this water I must bail
But I'll need a bigger bucket
Or a wider shape of pail
Weathermen and also any fool
Who dare predict the tide
The sun and moon will obfuscate
...The meteorologist lied!

(Chorus)

(The "Lost" Third Verse)
Now the flood it has subsided
And this moistness is a folly
Leading me to ask this question:
"By the way, where is Pete Solley?"
He did a great job with Pandora
In those final concert shows
He might've saved the fading Purcal
Only Heaven really knows!

(Chorus)
(Chorus)
(Organ Solo)
(Chorus ... to short fade out, then fade back in)
(Chorus)
(Chorus ... to long fade out)
