'Too Many Poets'

The Timeless Sea (Elbanna)

Key to authors' pseudonyms

The rocky crags on a stormy night
Were missed by those who saw the light
That flashed from beacon, cut through storm
Made men yearn for quiet and warm
Brigs and schooners passing through
Of warmer climes were heading to
Whalers and fishermen as well
Knew time would see them through this swell

The hardy natives of this coast
Told through legends and through boast
Of dragon boats from Nordic law
Did claim this coast in time of war
Of untold generations past
Who launched the ships with just one mast
The oarsmen of the longboats strive
To brave the elements.....stay alive

The ancient God beneath the waves
Takes some lives but some he saves
To reap the harvest of the sea
For those who wait expectantly
Knowing looks from face to face
Hope for lives they can’t replace
Grief will strike the families
of those who labour on the sea

Brave men, oarsmen of the blue
Have no fears of coming through
Lives so sweet, no thought of death
They thank their Gods for every breath
Life of mystery and romance
So much sweeter when it’s chanced
Men and nature are as one
They’ve sailed the sea since time began

Men and nature are as one
They’ve sailed the sea ... since time began
