'Too Many Poets'

Johnson's Corner (Chang)

Key to authors' pseudonyms

The liquorish covered statuette of Buddha
Sat alone its oneness to convey
Father John went in to buy his paper
Confused, he quickly turned and walked away.

Aunty May went in to buy her Sherry
A glazed expression came across her face
Jack the Lad bought Rizlas and tobacco
He didn’t even look, he had to race.

And so the day went on at Johnson’s Corner
The little shop reflecting all of life
Where no one questioned why a liquorish Buddha
Not even Mr Johnson or his wife.

The statuette was left by previous owners
Who used to serve the people of the street
They used to smile and share a piece of wisdom
With any searching soul they chanced to meet.

Still the day goes on at Johnson’s Corner
The little shop reflecting all of life
But no one questions why a liquorish Buddha
Not even Mr Johnson or his wife.
