New CD from Brooker / Wilson / Trower / Copping
July 1998: 'BtP' understands that Gary Brooker and Chris Thomas have lately been toiling in
a London studio 'tidying up' Gary's master-tape of the Liquorice John session, for imminent (by
September?) CD release by Shine On.
In contrast to various bootleg semi-versions that have emerged, this will be the first airing of the full Liquorice John set, and the limited-edition CD will be completed with liner notes by Chris Thomas, its original producer.
Artwork has been contributed to the project by Robin Trower, curator of the cover originally executed for the session by Southend's Dave Mundy, whose suicide is commemorated in For Liquorice John on the Grand Hotel album.
Mundy is sometimes quoted as the author of the song Well I (which is sometimes referred to as Count Your Blessings) which Procol Harum used to play on tour in the early 1970s. Let's hope Chris Thomas's liner-note sheds useful light on this legendary figure, who gave the Home-era Procol Harum their rock & roll alias.
More detail as soon as we have it: track-list here.
