Robin Trower on stage

Brief concert notes from Avril Bradshaw

Just read Bruce Murray's review of Royal Albert Hall gig in 70/71. According to the Jethro Tull tour-page website  Procol played support to Jethro, with Tir na Nog opening the concert, at the Albert Hall on 13 October 1970.

I was at the Birmingham Town Hall concert(s), near the beginning of the tour and can confirm that Robin Trower outshone everyone, including Jethro Tull's guitarist ... he looked totally ace, in his very tight white jeans and white top. Wilson too was outstanding live, and Brooker had one of the best white blues vocals I'd ever heard.

They played a double set that night, with the second concert starting at midnight. I stayed for both, they were so brilliant. I still have the signed copy of their photo from the gig.

Procol in those days was a very good live band to see, rock and R'n'B. I think Home had just been released around April '70. I also caught the band earlier that year, at the Mothers Club in Erdington, Birmingham. Again I have to say that Trower was amazing.
