"Fresh" from the last night party on the RKs' tour, at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House in Newcastle, your correspondent can report that the performance was 2½ hours of uninterrupted bliss.
This is not so much a review, more of a warm glow. For all Shiners and Whalers, never fear for the welfare of Gary Brooker's voice or the accuracy of Nenry Spinetti's drumwork. This was running at 110% from 9pm to the last chorus of Hole in the Wall at 11.30pm.
We were treated to a very full version of AWSoP in the encore, with Georgie Fame on Hammond and Frank Mead giving a soulful sax solo. Rapture indeed. Can GB ever have enjoyed singing it so much? My 18 year-old son (by far the youngest there, where most were nearer 81!), confirmed that now he understood what we have known and loved for years.
More, please, Mr B.
