AWSoP – unclearly many things

Bill Barrett

Bill Barrett writes to BtP:

A Whiter Shade of Pale is clearly many things –
and, by definition, unclearly many things.
It is the best song that has words.

Folks respond by questioning why people question –
the guitar was most clear herein – RT was listening and playing –
(gee – I don't know that – I liked PH for the guitar – and this song)
the song is an undriving drive.

Somehow, this song sings to me –
the groupie thing is the distraction –
it's a woman, a BMW, a vodka, a rail, a slam,
it's just a matter of being off-track
and that's the only place one can function from,
and this "one" functions.

There's no apology – there's no wisdom –
just sharing that some people need to, and CAN,
follow an unusual path.

But, if I could explain the song, I would have written it.
And that would, indeed, be redundant (and beyond my skill,
and yet, not – the song would give me permission).

Asked if the above constituted a poem, Bill replied

I think out loud sometimes,
seems to be what I call thinking

I could be a musician if I had tone –
formatting – these spaces –
make things look like poems –
I find that choosing line-endings encodes more meaning
than color
