A Procol Press release

Gibson and Stromberg, 1972

No wonder there were so many errors in newspaper articles, if this is the sort of stuff they were being fed by PR offices!

Procol Harum, a top English group which got together several years ago by means of newspaper ads, headlines a concert Nov 1 at Loew's State Theater. Steeleye Span and Tir Na Nog are featured acts.

The group is unique in that it is actually four musicians [sic] and a traveling lyricist, Keith Reid, who is one of the co-founders, and only plays on occasion. The other co-founder is vocalist-pianist Gary Brooker. Also in the group are Mick Grabham, bassist [sic], Chris Copping on bass [sic] and organ, BJ Wilson, drummer, and Alan Cartwright on bass.

Over the past few seasons, Procol Harum has changed its music and its style, to the effect it is now much heavier involved in rock and roll. A. good example is its album-single, Broken Barricades, written by Trower [sic!]. Their latest album is Procol Harum Live With the Edmonton Symphony.

Although from London, the group now plays most of its concerts in the US, having first come over here in 1967, a year after its inception. Every once in a while it returns to the Mother Country for shows, and on a rare occasion headlines on Continent tours.

Reid and Brooker put the band together by advertising in newspapers, until they got the musicians they wanted. There have been only two [sic] changes since the band started, so, basically, Procol Harum is much the same today as far as personnel.

(thanks, Unsteady Freddie)
