Gary Brooker celebrated the start of what we must hope will be a very musical New Year for him by sitting in on a set at Scratchers, the folk club at Goldalming's Three Lions, with some friends of his from France, a duo called Rag Mama Rag. Dubbed 'the White Stripes of acoustic blues', they are a husband-and wife duo specialising in 20s and 30s repertoire.
'They’re actually English,' writes our correspondent, who continues, 'Thank God for that, because the French just can’t seem to get rock or blues right! They tour around Europe and the UK regularly, and honestly are a joy to watch.'
Wielding a piano-accordion [could it be the instrument he plays on Nothing That I didn't Know?] Gary sat in on several numbers and ended with a rousing rendition of Goodnight Irene. The crowd was very appreciative and enthusiastic.
