I assume you've been following the organ vs. synth discussion on the Procol Harum mail-list. Here's my commentary (one picture is worth a thousand words)
It's a Victorian pump organ (the two pedals you see work a
bellows to supply air) – they were almost always very
ornate, made out of expensive woods like walnut & cherry, and
a surprising number of homes had them in America (well, they
couldn't very well put one of the CDs from the box set on, now
could they?)
