Shine On-line

Editorial: Diane Rolph & John Grayson

A Mini Shine On

Shine On this time is just four pages because we felt you’d want to know the final, confirmed Bill Wyman dates immediately they were released.

Gary is currently away in the USA with Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band, but we in the UK will all have the opportunity of seeing him plus Graham Broad at the end of May and most of June. These dates are bound to please those of you who often complain there’s never anything "north of The Wash."

Those who do attend the gigs, particularly in the north, do write to us with a review.

The Christmas gigs went brilliantly well. At Guildford Procolers Geoff Whitehorn and Mark Brzezicki turned up to join in the fun and a grand time was had by all at Southend, as only Southenders know how!

Gary kept his promise at Guildford and previewed a new Procol song, A Real Attitude which was originally written for the Prodigal Stranger album but somehow never made it. A superb song with a jazzy feel, everyone agreed we must hear it again.

Many of our foreign friends came over for the weekend. The 30th Procol Harum Anniversary reunion concert forged many friendships which have continued, and it seems that hotel gatherings of this sort are starting to become the norm when Gary plays a gig.

We thank Roland and Jens from the Procol website for the article by Jose Rios, who travelled to Guildford and Southend from Peru (just for the weekend!).

£3375 was donated from the gigs to Cherry Trees, the chosen charity for this year. They provide temporary accommodation and facilities for children who need 100% care, while their carers go on holiday.

Fuller reviews of Guildford and Southend will appear in the next edition, along with reviews of the Ringo tour.

Meanwhile, Mac Gajda has written us a fascinating and moving account of his youth spent in Poland. It seems that while we in the UK could see Procol regularly, if you lived behind the Iron Curtain, things were almost impossible.

Articles for the next (bigger) Shine On are welcomed, so please get writing.

The Liquorice John Death CD has proved very popular with you all. We still have plenty of copies left however, along with other Procol merchandise: contact John Grayson.
