The answer was one word, 'Well'. Here's the order of Triumphant Victors drawn from the BtP Homburg at 2259 hrs GMT on 5 January. Thanks to tonight's Impartial BtP Assistant (illustrated). Nine lucky people Ellie selected will be sent their first available choice of prize: they're listed here. If your name appears on the winners' list below, please make sure we have your 'real world' address as soon as possible, and we'll activate the BtP snails to bring the goodies to the various continents required.

Many thanks to everyone who took part in this year's puzzles, specially those who were kind enough to comment on the enjoyment they'd got from the whole procedure ... commiserations to Bert Saraco, Beverly Peyton, Bob Jaccino, David Whitney, Erik Mouridsen, Gary Rosen, Gary Shepard, Giancarlo Buletti, Guillermo Miyares, Hamilton, Henrik Gøttrup , Holger Neumayer, Howard Christie, Jan Smulders, Jeff Vintner, Jeremy Gilien, Jill McMahon, John Cammaleri, Kerry Canfield, Kerry Holloway, Mark Mott, Michael Wilson, Mike Cooper, Mimi Bederman, Pat Keating, Patrick McDonald, Peter Christian, Peter Cohen, and Piotr Wlaz, whose names remained in the Homburg. Piotr Wlaz, Peter Christian and Pat Keating were close to beating the clock, but the winning trio were really very fast indeed!
Further commiserations to several competitors whose responses were 'differently correct' ... nearly all of these errors were caused simply by failing to read the final instruction – it was the last word of the song, Simple Sister, that we wanted, not its title. One competitor sent in a response on 4 January ... incorrectly! One competitor sent in a word that wasn't part of the correct song, and didn't specify any choice of prizes ... doh!
But the overwhelming majority of players had the right answer ... after all, 'Well Simple' was written on every clue page, and in an ideal world we'd say, like Lewis Carroll, 'Everyone has won and everyone shall have prizes'.
