Nashville, Tennessee
Dee Murray, the bass player in Elton John's original rock 'n'
roll band, died on Wednesday after suffering a stroke while
fighting cancer. He was 45.
Mr Murray was diagnosed eight years ago with malignant skin
cancer, said Sarah McMullen, a family spokesperson. He was being
treated for the
cancer when he suffered a stroke on Sunday.
After the stroke, he was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical
Center, where he died.
Mr Murray recorded and performed with John throughout the 1970s
and early 1980s.
"Dee Murray has made huge musical and personal contributions
to my life," John said in a statement.
