Cheap Trick and the Procol Harum influence

Jesper Frigast Larsen / Classic Rock

Jesper Frigast Larsen writes to BtP (January 2011)

'As diverse as they may be, US powerpop rockers Cheap Trick and Procol Harum are two of my favourite bands.

'Imagine, therefore, my enjoyment when reading the following in the December 2010 edition of Classic Rock where Cheap Trick singer Robin Zander gives his track-by-track look at the band’s excellent new album The Latest (page 75):

'Everybody Knows. “I remember sitting in Los Angeles, chilling out and listening to Procol Harum records. Then I went and met with Pat Leonard to write some stuff, and Procol Harum were still in my head. So what came out is definitely something that owes a lot to that great band.”

'Listening to the song again after reading this, the PH influence on the song is obvious, except for the falsetto bridge!

'You can listen for yourselves on YouTube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BN9gaJ2z58s'
