Procol Harum

1967 (1992 in Russia)

We understand that this vinyl version of the original Procol Harum album was manufactured in Russia in 1992; the number is Antrop P91.

Unlike the original pressing it contains A Whiter Shade Of Pale, and the cover contains notes in Russian that you may just be able to read in the excerpt above. (Read about the American version here, and the Italian one)

Jonas Söderström adds:
Although Cerdes is spelt Cerdez on the Russian cover, we will certainly understand our fellow Russian Procoholics when we all meet at the next global concert-celebration, since a "Z" in a final position is pronounced simply "S" in Russian.

Frankly, the spelling / translation / transliteration on the Russian cover is quite okay. More serious mistakes have been seen on Western, legitimate records.

The text between the titles and the musicians credits simply says that Gary and Keith wrote everything except Repent Walpurgis 'for which Matthew Fisher may be held responsible'.

"Belee blednogo" - pronounced roughly "bje'ljeje blje'dnava" - is a shorthand translation of AWSoP, meaning simply "Whiter than the pale", but the alliteration (B-B) and the (lje-lje) makes it an attractive choice, in my opinion.

But they obviously didn't know what to do with Repent Walpurgis ...
