C4 Teletext services 27/02/3: Procol Harum- The Well's On Fire
"Procol Harum are unswinging and locked in strait-jacketed arrangements" wrote Melody Maker (RIP) in 1975. Some things never change, eh? Nearly 40 years after their inception, PH are still best known for their début single, A Whiter Shade of Pale. Nothing on this overblown, windy and hopelessly out-of-time album will change that. Their 9/11 song begins [sic] "A big black bird swooped out of the sky ..." Procol Harum, ELP and Yes: the real axis of evil?
3/10
Contextual notes:
(1) Teletext reviews tend to the snappy and cryptic due to the constraints of being on the televison text pages.
(2) The C4 'Void' audience from whence this comes seems to be of the alt-rock indie cool leftfield variety. Primarily an under 30s clientele.
Thanks, Sam
