Mit Gary Brooker, Gesang und Klavier, Matthew Fisher, Orgel und Keith Reid, allein für die lyrischen Songtexte verantwortlich, fungiert auf dem neuen und zwölften Album Well's On Fire wieder das Kerntrio der 1967 gegründeten Procol Harum.

With Gary Brooker,vocals and piano, Matthew Fisher, organ and Keith Reid responsible solely for the words, the core trio of Procol Harum - founded in 1967 - is together again for a new, twelfth album, The Well's On Fire.

Gute Nachrichten für die Fans von "A Whiter Shade Of Pale" und anderen düsteren Tastenhits, denn zwischenzeitlich bestand die britische Formation nur noch aus Gary Brooker und wechselnden Gastmusikern.

This is good news for fans of A Whiter Shade Of Pale and other gloomy hits, since in the meanwhile the British combo consisted only of Gary Brooker and changing guest-musicians [sic].

Mit Reid sind auch wieder interessante, authentische Songs entstanden wie "Shadow Boxed", "The Blink Of An Eye" oder der "Vip Room", ein typischer Losgehrock im Stil der 70er mit gelungenem Piano/Orgel/Gitarren-Arrangement.

Reid has come up with interesting, authentic songs were such as Shadow Boxed, The Blink Of An Eye or The VIP Room, a typical 70s rocker with a neat piano / organ / guitar arrangement.

Bei dem jazzigen Funk-Rock "The Question" denkt man automatisch an die lässigen Steely Dan, auch das Piano-Bass-Spiel von "Wall Street Blues" fällt in diese Kategorie. Die für Procol Harum typische pastorale Stimmung stellt sich auf "This World Is Rich" und der Hymne "Fellow Travellers" ein, ein leises Pianostück ist "The Emperor's New Clothes".

The jazzy funk of The Question automatically puts one in mind of Steely Dan's languour. The piano-bass interplay of Wall Street Blues comes into the same category. The typical pastoral Procol sound features on This World Is Rich and the hymnal Fellow Travellers. A soft piano item is The Emperor's New Clothes.

Und auf dem intrumentalen Schlussstück "Weisselklenzenacht (The Signature)" sitzt Gary Brooker an der geliebten Kirchenorgel für eine seiner Bach-Variationen. Wahrhaftiges Urgestein. --Ingeborg Schober
