Seit Anfang der 90er Jahre, als nach und nach so manche Größe der 70erJahre wiederbelebt wurde, sind auch Procol Harum wieder aktiv, wobei dieAktivitäten mehr auf der Bühne als im Studio stattfinden. Denn nach dem Comeback-Album The Prodigal Stranger von 1991 folgte erst 2003 mit TheWell's On Fire wieder ein neues Studioalbum. Von der Urbesetzung ist nebenSänger und Pianist Gary Brooker nur noch Organist Matthew Fisher dabei.

Procol Harum are active again: but in their case – since the start of the 90s, when some of the greats of the 70s started to come back to life – it's been more on stage than in the studio. It was only in 2003, after their 1991 comeback album The Prodigal Stranger, that they followed up with The Well's on Fire, a further studio recording. Of the original line-up, only singer/pianist Gary Brooker and organist Matthew Fisher remain.

Die DVD enthält den kompletten Auftritt von Procol Harum in der Londoner Union Chapel am 12 Dezember 2003. Geboten wird ein Mix aus Stücken desaktuellen Studioalbums, bewährten Klassikern und einigen seltener zuhörenden Songs. Zu letzteren gehört vor allem die lange Version desberühmtesten Songs der Band, A Whiter Shade of Pale, die den Abschlussdes Konzerts bildet.

This DVD contains the complete [sic] appearance of Procol Harum at London's Union Chapel on 12 December 2003. On offer is a mix of pieces from the current albums, some real classics, and some unusually-heard songs, of which the ultimate is the long version of the band's most famous song, A Whiter Shade of Pale, which forms the conclusion of the concert.

Ansonsten zeigt hier wieder das Problem, das häufig bei 'Neuauflagen' alterBands auftritt: die alten Songs funktionieren immer noch, aber die neuerenSachen reichen da nicht heran. Von der instrumentalen Fisher-KompositionWeisselklenzenacht, die noch einmal der Geist der klassischen ProcolHarum beschwört, abgesehen, sind die neueren Sachen eher harmloseRock/Pop-Stücke.

But here again we have the problem that is frequently manifest with comebacks of old bands: the old songs still work well, but the newer things don't quite hit the mark. Apart from the Fisher instrumental Weisselklenzenacht, which carries on the spirit of the classic Procol Harum, the newer pieces are rather harmless rock/pop.

Eine spektakuläre Bühnenshow haben Procol Harum nicht zu bieten, was beimvorgerückten Alter der beteiligten Musiker (lediglich Bassist Matt Pegg warnoch nicht einmal geboren, als Procol Harum ihre große Zeit hatten) auchniemand wirklich erwarten kann. Dennoch ist es durchaus interessant, derBand zuzuschauen, gerade Matthew Fishers antiquiert wirkende Hammond-Orgelweckt nostalgische Gefühle.

Procol Harum don't offer much in the way of a stage spectacle, which is scarcely surprising in view of the age of the musicians involved (save bassist Matt Pegg, who was born after the band's heyday [sic]). It is interesting nevertheless to watch the band at work: even Matthew Fisher's old-style Hammonding wakens feeling of nostalgia.

An Bonusmaterial enthält die DVD ein Interview mit Gary Brooker, eine'Earlier in the day'-Montage, sowie bei zwei Stücken die Möglichkeit,zwischen alternativen Kameraeinstellungen zu wählen. Insgesamt trotz der nicht so überzeugenden neuen Stücke ist dies zumindestfür den Procol.Harum-Fan auf Grund der zahlreichen Klassiker einelohnenswerte Anschaffung.

By way of bonus material the DVD contains an interview with Gary Brooker, an 'Earlier in the Day' montage, and two songs that offer the possibility of selecting alternative camera angles. Altogether – despite the underwhelming new compositions – this is a worthy acquisition for the Procol Harum fan, thanks to the numerous classics it contains.
