Procol Harum - Live (DVD)

Reviewed by Don Sincero for This is Rock in Spain

A magnificent concert of British group Procol Harum in Copenhagen, celebrated in December 2001. The actual line-up, established over recent years, is composed of Gary Brooker, Matthew Fisher, Geoff Whitehorn, Mark Brzezicki and Matt Pegg. Keith Reid is also mentioned in the credits as the lyricist of most of the songs and a fixed component of the band, something that is perfectly just (= Quite Rightly So!).

The images on this DVD show us a very soulful Gary Brooker still full of abundant feeling, almost forty years on from the eruption on to the international musical panorama of his band Procol Harum of which he is the lead singer. Also by his side maestro Matthew fisher at the wooden-made double manual classic Hammond organ with the unique sixties sound of the Leslie cabinet.

Twenty songs are presented, among them Pandora’s Box, Homburg, Grand Hotel, A Salty Dog, Conquistador, finishing the set with the super hit, A Whiter Shade of Pale.

A DVD that allows us the possibility to participate in the band’s rehearsal prior to the concert: a set of eight songs entitled 'uninhibited' includes the well known Morning Dew and a very Hendrixian version of Hey Joe with a brilliantly-played guitar in the hands of the illustrious guitarist Geoff Whitehorn and the youthful bass player Matt Pegg, completing a very effective rhythm section together with ex-Big Country drummer Mark Brzezicki.

As usual like all products from classic pictures an incredible presentation of the packaging and box with the group logo in silver and relief.

The images are perfect, the sound is an authentic marvel were you can choose from 5.1 Dolby digital, 5.1 dts and Dolby stereo.
