A Bach-influenced organ song and nonsense lyrics: that's what it took to propel Procol Harum into the stratosphere. As the singer / pianist Gary Brooker tells us in this DVD's bonus section, the band was totally surprised by their success with A Whiter Shade of Pale, the song that for most music lovers is synonymous with Procol Harum. And they never succeeded in repeating this triumph. This concert, filmed in Copenhagen just over three years ago, shows that Procol Harum have had a good grip on touching melodies throughout their 35+ years of existence, but notwithstanding the excellence of songs like Magdalene and A Salty Dog (the missing link between the Beatles and Genesis), the final number is the concert's undoubted peak, both nostalgically and artistically. The song's name is... exactly, A Whiter Shade of Pale. Sound: 5.1 Dolby Digital/DTS. Daniel Reichberg |
