This long, intriguing Gary Brooker interview was conducted by Karsten Overgaard and Niels-Erik Mortensen: it was broadcast just before Christmas 1990, with Sunday-morning re-runs in January 1991; the station was the now-defunct Radio HSR, which at that time was the second-largest station in the Metropolitan Copenhagen area.

On the tape one hears muted voices in intimate chat, with birdsong in the background, and the occasional rasp of a lighter as Gary wrestles with his pipe. 'Beyond the Pale' divides this interview into the following sections:
