These are an English translation of Franky Brooker's words sung by Procol Harum at the Paris Olympia, 14 March 2005, to the tune of Trick of the Night (from Gary Brooker's third solo album, Echoes in the Night). The original French words are here. The Keith Reid words are here.
English translation by Jan Smulders, who add: Though I am Dutch, I considered the translation as a kind of interesting home-work. The problem was that I had to translate the french into dutch and then again into english; another problem was that you asked a kind of literal translation: so I could not make it sound or read better. We live about 5 kilometers from the Dutch-Belgian border; our children, Mira and Micha, go to school there. French is the second important language (Dutch as well as French 5 hours per week). You can image that I asked them sometimes for a little help.
A time ago When I watched those pictures I found your face again It seems an eternity those good times we once had
It was then that my heart had beaten for you, the very first time and you touched my lips with that kiss I dreamt of
Those memories of youth reminder of tenderness they will always stay with me goodbye to living by the rules an anxious look that was our goodbye of the day
When I watched those pictures those moments that love is beyond age whispering, I would always love you while you were courting me
Those memories of youth reminder of tenderness will always be on my side far away from living by the rules with an anxious look so we said goodbye to the day
Watching those pictures I found your face again it was like an eternity of good times that we once had
It was an eternity ago the good times we once had. |
