Some stage photos from 1971

Unsteady Freddie

BJ is pictured here on stage with Procol Harum at Central Park's Schaefer Music Festival in 1971

A laughing Dave Ball, whose onstage demeanour lends itself very much to the action photo ... the more puzzling, then, that his face does not appear in the booklet for the otherwise excellent Repertoire CD re-issue of the Edmonton album (order here)

The Commander is pictured in the shadows with a suitably robust-looking grand at his disposal

BJ, Alan Cartwright, and Dave Ball are depicted, along with the large lighting rig that sheds such a glow on the amps and cabinets stacked at the back of the Schaefer stage.

Professor Copping at the B3 ... it must have been a great relief to be able to get both hands on to the Hammond keys, following the days of the Fender Piano Bass (see here) which preoccupied his left hand before the advent of Alan Cartwright.

A different occasion, but the same year, sees Dave Ball in action again. In the Grabham era, the guitarist stood nearest to the piano ... but that was largely after the drums had shifted stage left.

The same, different, occasion from the same year. Interesting to note that Dave apparently has a choice of two vocal microphones here!
