Procol Harum activity since 2000
When Procol Harum convened as a nine-piece rotating line-up to celebrate
their thirtieth birthday (Redhill, 1997) the
foregathered fans generally believed it was the last time we should hear that
great music played live. Yet here we are, shortly before Procol Harum kick off
their 2009 festival-headlining appearances, with some 143 gigs on the
post-Redhill roster – pretty nearly a gig a month, on average, covering
seventeen countries. In addition, of course, we've had another
studio album, a download-only live album, and
three concert DVDs (all details below); and the band have been working in the
studio on new recordings. Not bad going at all!
The notes below do not include private Procol Harum appearances, such as those
at Gary Brooker's Christmas fund-raising parties, nor those at the 'Beyond the
Pale' parties such as Manchester 2001, Los Angeles 2003, and Lejre 2006; but
they do include the 40th Anniversary Concert that 'Beyond the Pale' organised in
London (2007) since that was open to the general public.
