Gary Brooker will be haunted by A Whiter Shade of Pale all his days. This comeback is brim-full of stars such as Phil Collins, Eric Clapton, George Harrison. Albert Lee, Steve Holly, Chris Stainton and Mel Collins, but the voice is unmistakably Procul [sic] Harum – or rather Gary Brooker. The result is a very British mellow rock album, at times rather like Collins' own solo work. The production is such that the lryics [sic] are clearly heard, yet they are often the weak points. At the same time Colin Thurston, who could have perhaps given the sound more bite, is relegated to engineer. Overall this is a very pleasant, mellow experience which could take off if given enough exposure.
