A Piratical Cruise

from davelee's album

A Japanese picture sleeve (more picture sleeves here)

Two unusual posters, one with unusual spelling!

Finally, two snaps from 21 August 1995.

One is of me on the pirate radio station ship, Radio Caroline, looking through their record collection. What a sad man!

If I remember rightly they had Home and the Salty Dog / Whiter Shade double album.

The ship was several miles off the shore of Clacton-on-sea, and I remember the date because we saw Procol in Clacton that night.

I got the DJs to announce this fact on the radio, but was saddened that they knew nothing about the gig.

The other picture shows me running afloat back to dry land with the ship in the background.

Radio Caroline has been broadcasting pirate radio from a ship since the mid-1960s (owing to curious British Laws on Broadcasting).

They've gone through about three ships since their heyday in the 1960s. In the 1990s they were commissioned to broadcast off coastal resorts by forgiving local authorities and the tourist board!

Which is what they were doing off Clacton that day.
