Alfred Noll reports to BtP (March 2005)
I do remember attending my first concert of Procol Harum in Winterthur, Switzerland at the Eulachhalle on Saturday, 30 September 1972.
The group did then perform the suite In Held 'Twas In I in its full length with the participation of Keith Reid. They played as well songs from their forthcoming album Grand Hotel: the title track itself, Bringing Home The Bacon, A Souvenir of London and Fires (Which Burnt Brightly).
The group’s appearance marked one of their first gigs at all with new band member Mick Grabham. Having started the gig in the sold-out venue with The Devil Came From Kansas Procol Harum closed Saturday night with a fiery and unplanned rendition of Little Richard’s Good Golly Miss Molly. Gary was in complete control of everybody and everything but nonetheless taken aback about the audience’s wild response to the entire set.
When we left the venue the stars were shining bright, the ambience was full of sound…indeed still a night to remember after all these years!
