Allen Edelist, 1950 – 2018

John Lock writes, 19 November 2018 (coincidentally OE's 68th birthday)

I've only just found about about the demise of One-Eye, having been out of the Procol Harum loop for the best part of the last decade.

It reminded me that I once wrote an Ode to One-Eye aka Beyond the Al based on Beyond the Pale which I think I gave to one of the PH line up back in 2008-ish (but I'm not 100% on this!).

Amazingly I have found that too. It seems to have lasted well except for the bit about 'thirty grand' which he once told me, but which must need some updating.  Did they ever play it for him?   Or were they waiting for his hundredth appearance?

Ode to One Eye / Beyond the Al

Who will search
for shades of pale?
over seas
and off the rails?
Who will fly
from LA’s light
to the darkest
Europe night?

Who will fork out thirty grand?
Who will stand up for the band?
Who will write and write and write
put the sceptics all to flight?
Who will sit in theatre stalls
Music clubs and concert halls
Wherever tickets go on sale
For A Whiter Shade of Pale?

Who will follow
where they go?
Eastern bloc
to Tokyo?
Who will come
to every night
list the list
and write the write?

Who will fork out thirty grand?
Who will stand up for the band?
All those gadgets on his wrist
yes it's Allen Edelist...

Who will fork out thirty grand?
who will stand up for the band?
Here's some news just in from Spain
Yes it's Juan Eye once again

(shout) One Eye!
