Sunday morning:
Franky Brooker writes to 'Beyond the Pale'
... We just came back from A&E [Accident and Emergency] where he was told he has broken a bone in his hand (fifth metacarpal): he won't be able to play for six weeks but ... you know Gary! The bruises will go eventually, his knees are OK, just blue, and no broken ribs! Apart from that he's fine. I think it was amazing for Gary to go back and play, he was in great pain with his hand -- but like a good soldier, play must go on ! ... |
BtP hopes fans won't be upset at seeing this very
graphic picture (below), taken in the Brookers' kitchen. We know GB doesn't
mind! We feel on balance that seeing the picture is a good antidote to
speculation, or 'alternative facts'. Clearly the Royal Festival Hall stairway
took quite a toll on the Commander physically: equally clearly his fighting
spirit prevailed ... to the enormous relief of a sold-out, and very concerned,
concert hall. He must have been greatly heartened by the standing ovation that
greeted his return to the stage ('unexpectedly heroic', according to one
online review) after the paramedic's initial evaluation.
Fans' messages of goodwill are here
The fifth metacarpal injury is often known as the 'Boxers' Fracture' ... but
shadowboxing will be off the menu until the bone has healed.
