Procol Harum at Birmingham City Hall

I recently came across my ticket for my first Procol Harum concert – at Birmingham Town Hall on 9 January 1976. Seems remarkable value at £1.25 !! Bizarrely that concert was most memorable for the antics of support Viv Stanshall who in jumping off the stage managed to break his leg as reported here.

 

Forty-one years later nothing would distract from my thirteenth Procol Concert. Having witnessed Gary's fall at the Royal Festival Hall, it was fantastic to see him back in top form.

The classic tracks were all immaculate and the Novum tracks work as well on the stage as in the studio.

For me the absolute highlight was the incredibly sad and beautifully-performed The Only One. In itself worth every penny of the £42 ticket price. Surely a new Procol classic!
