'Beyond the Pale' .. with help from our friends in Germany ... is holding a celebration of Gary Brooker's 69th birthday. It will start on 28 May: a sit-down meal with Procol Harum, and fellow-fans from many countries, right by the oldest working brewery in the world, in the very town where Procol will play the following day. The birthday itself, of course, will be celebrated at 'the end of the evening', when 29 May comes round.

The Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan (in German Bayerische Staatsbrauerei Weihenstephan) is run jointly with the Technical University of Munich as a state-of-the-art production facility cum learning centre for brewing. BtP has hired a suitable-sized room at the Braüstüberl Weihenstephan (click and browse!), for our private party with the band; we also have exclusive use of the Summer Terrace (see here).

The repertoire of things to drink can be found here ... for which the establishment is famous throughout the world (see below!)

The address of the venue is The Barockstube, Weihenstephaner Berg 10, 85354 Freising, +49/(0)8161/130 04.  Freising is the location of Munich airport, and Munich – the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria – is very simple to get to from anywhere in the world:

Hotels: BtP has not set up a Basecamp Hotel on this occasion, but you can look for suitable accommodation here, here or (slightly further away) here.

As the clipping above shows, only three bars in the world beat our party venue in a US magazine survey: by this reckoning, there is no better place to drink on the European mainland.

The Weihenstephan Brewery can trace its roots at the abbey to 768. A brewery was licensed by the City of Freising in 1040, and that is the founding date claimed by the modern brewery. The brewery thus has a credible claim to being the oldest working brewery in the world. And for one night only Procol Harum and its distinguished leader will be wined and dined by the fans there!

Fans who wanted to be on the list for this very nice party have sent their names now to 'Beyond the Pale'. The pricing principle is straightforward: you'll pay for whatever you eat and drink; you'll also have many chances to buy drinks for all the Procols and their crew; and the entry price (somewhere between 10 and 20 Euros) will go towards paying for the band's meal. You'll also get a groovy, personalised souvenir laminate on a lanyard! The entry price will be fixed on the basis of numbers attending; our intention – as with all our very successful parties – is only to cover costs and to keep prices down so that everyone can have a good time in good company.

Please note: we will all sit down to eat together, so it's not possible to be there and not pay for a meal.

Jens and Roland and our local helpers look forward to seeing all the people, from many countries, who have signed up for this happy occasion!
