Gary Brooker's vocal explanation of the items
offered for auction: click to listen
We're offering these drum heads individually for those who would like a
simple item to frame and hang on their music-room wall.
The various
individual sales will follow ... for the benefit of people who miss
the larger item sales.
Self-evidently we
have not tidied up nor cleaned any of these items; they're offered in used
condition and have clearly been in storage for quite a while.
Their historic patina will surely give them real appeal to BJ's fans – they are
as he handled them – but of course they can also be
cleaned up, restored and so on as required by their eventual lucky owners
Like the other memorabilia in this sale, these heads belonged to
BJ Wilson, and most were used with Procol Harum for stage and recording work;
they were later in
the possession of Gary Brooker, who played BJ's kit for
home demo purposes. The Ludwig is 16.5 inches across,
the Premier 12.5 inches, and the little Remo head is 8.5 inches
This Percussion Plus mesh head appears unused ... possibly it originates with Gary, rather than
BJ.
Either way, it's 10.5 inches across, and it's included in the sale
The eight snare-drum heads that are offered for auction. Don't be fooled by the very, very large one ... it is a round garden table on which the instruments themselves are arrayed
A used Evans head
Four used Remo heads
A couple more heads ... all simple souvenirs of the great percussionist
