Procol Harum in Wuppertal, 5 April 2013
Friday's gig • official photography by Andre Scollick (4)
Each night there were reports of audience members' jumping out of
their skins, metaphorically, when they became aware of the
entry, through the audience, of the Simple Sister dancers
They don't look as if they've got whooping cough
Hands and arms, an important part of the dancing
Eerie, fascinating, not-entirely-explicable dancing ... very Procol Harum
Highly pleasing that the two lead dancers – Jo Ann Endicott and Bénédicte Billet – are not wearing the same colour
Amazing the effects they created, given the small space at their disposal
Though it was the same song that had been danced to at The Barbican in 1996, this choreography bore little relation to the foregoing
Scare off all the boys?
Other participants in the weirdly-fractured dance narrative
And much work for the follow-spot operators
A blast of limelight for the back desk of the first violins
Much more watchable than so-called 'twerking' is
Red shoes ...
So, which is the Simple Sister?
Geoff Dunn's attention is firmly elsewhere
All very, very intriguing.
