Procol Harum fans in Wuppertal, 6 April 2013
The End of the Evening • Official photography by Andre Scollick (2)
Some dress up for the gig, some don't. But everyone has fun :-)
Gary Brooker singing, with Justin Tetlow (guitar) and Kari Warhuus (backing vocal)
Roland from BtP on piano, Ian Hockley from Oman on synth, Poul Achton from Denmark on percussion
More dancing!
Roland, Gary Shepard and Poul rising to the challenge as Geoff
Whitehorn suddenly appears on stage to play an unrehearsed number
Luiz from Brazil taking care of the pianist's microphone. The
tee-shirt lists all the Palers' Band dates on the back.
'Ooh ... I've been to all your gigs,' said Gary Brooker, on reading this!
Two men, three drinks! As always the key thing really is the
people. At a Palers' Convention you meet old friends for the first time. You
hadn't seen that Procol shirt before,
you grew up with a different version of the same album, you had stories of the
Hollywood Bowl, Keith Reid on stage at The Rainbow, Procol on the Palers' Stage
at BB King's Club in Hollywood, an evening on the town with BJ Wilson ...
you'd sat in on AWSoP with the rest of Procol at a party, your name was
mentioned in Henry's book,
you bought one of Gary's classic tee-shirts on eBay, your grandfather was at the
UFO in 1967, your grand-daughter plays Poor Mohammed on the harp
...
you reckon you know what Keith means by 'Not a man who had a finger' ... all the
anecdotes and shared experiences, that's what makes these parties so brilliant.
Cheers!
