Basecamp Hotel arrangements

BtP has arranged discounted-price accommodation for Procol / Brooker fans at Ilfracombe House Hotel at 9–13 Wilson Road, Southend-on-Sea, Essex SS1 1HG; phone 01702 351000 (thanks, Bertie). This is where Palers habitually stay for No Stiletto Shoes gigs in Southend: it is clean, comfortable and convenient. A lot of comparable Southend hotels have closed down (eg the Tower Hotel) – note that Ilfracombe House is exceptionally convenient, just a short walk from the Riga Music Bar, where Gary Brooker and his band are playing on 11 and 12 December.

BtP has pencil-booked – on fans' behalf – all Ilfracombe's available accommodation for the 11/12 December weekend. This means the general public can't book rooms there, and this arrangement will continue until the end of 30 September (from October onwards, the hotel will be bookable to the general public again).

To book your rooms, send an e-mail to Bertie (info@ilfracombe-hotel.co.uk) specifying exactly what you need, and he will do the rest (BtP is not booking the rooms for you, this time around). So that Bertie – the manager! – knows you are not a member of the general public, quote 'Beyond the Pale' in the title of your e-mail.

These prices are in force throughout September to visitors from 'Beyond the Pale' They include tax, free Wi-Fi and full English breakfast

The apartments (details here) contain two double bedrooms (individually lockable), living-room, kitchen and bathroom: they cost 79 GBP daily overall for 4 people, or 74 GBP for 2 people, including tax and full English breakfast. Many members of the Palers' Band stayed in these apartments in the summer of 2007, and found them excellent value, and very comfortable. If four people stay there, they are paying effectively 20 GBP per night each, and getting a full English breakfast included in the price.

By train
To Southend Central station (Fenchurch Street Line) or to Southend Victoria (Liverpool Street Line). Both stations are within walking distance of the hotel or only a few minutes' ride in a taxi or 'cab'.

Driving in on A13
Follow the signs towards Southend town centre.
Once in Southend turn right at the Cricketers Inn Pub into Milton Road ending up in Cambridge Road.
Take the 3rd right into Wilson Road, just before a mini roundabout.

Driving in on A127
Head towards Southend via Victoria Avenue then follow the signs for A13 London Road.
Once on the A13, turn left at the Cricketers Inn Pub and follow the directions as above
