To byl zimny maj, a i nowy miesiac nie rozpoczal sie rewelacyjnie. Jednak 1 czerwca w sopockiej Operze Lesnej wcale nie bylo zimno. Malo tego, miejscami bylo wrecz goraco. Wszyskto za sprawa weteranów rocka, PROCOL HARUM.

It was a cold May day and a new month starting out not too great, but June 1 in Sopot wasn't cold at all. At the moment it was hot all because of veteran rock group Procol Harum.

Nie bardzo wierzylem w powodzenie tego koncertu. Dla wiekszosci wszak to zespól jednego przeboju. Grupa to juz wiekowa nie majaca od lat duzego przeboju. 'A Whiter Shade Of Pale' ma jednak taka sile oddzialywania, ze byli i tacy, którzy przybyli by posluchac tylko tej jednej piosenki.

I wasn't sure the concert was going to be a success because this group is only known for one song. This group is pretty old and hadn't a big hit song in a long time, but the impact of A Whiter Shade of Pale influenced people to come just for that one song.

1 czerwca 2001 roku Opera Lesna zostala opanowana przez pokolenie 50, 55-latków, wsród których znalazla sie spora gromada obcokrajowców. Lza krecila sie w oku widzac tych zapracowanych ojców rodzin i ich zony bawiacych sie niczym nastolatki. Wzruszeniem i cieplym usmiechem obdarzano pewna dame, która od poczatku do konca koncertu tanczyla pod scena. Tak, to byl koncert dla nich.

June 1st 2001 Opera House bombarded with a lot of people from many countries. It brought tears to my eyes to see husbands and wives who work hard appear as teenagers. Warm smiles and warm hearts watched as a woman danced alongside of stage for entire concert enhancing the good time.

Wypelniona w 3/4 Opera Lesna stala sie arena wspomnien, wzruszen oraz nuty melancholii, kiedy na scenie pieciu jegomosciów z wiekowym juz GARYM BROOKEREM przywracala tamten czas. Odarty z przepychu scenografii i swiatel wystep PROCOL HARUM byl prawdziwym pokazem czym jest Muzyka.

The theatre 3/4 full with memories of old times hearing music without special effects necessary proving what REAL music is truly about and how it should be heard. Procol Harum music is phenomenal! Sometimes we think we only know one or two pieces, but this night we realised how many more we really remembered and how special these songs are.

A Muzyka byla doskonala. Choc wydaje sie nam, ze znamy tylko jeden, moze dwa utwory PROCOL HARUM, tak naprawde jest inaczej. W koncu wszyscy doskonale sie bawili przy calej serii przebojów. Pierwsze wzruszenie nastapilo przy 'Homburg', który pojawil sie jako trzeci w programie. Pózniej jeszcze m.in. 'Conquistador', 'Salad Days (Are Here Again)', 'Shine On Brightly', 'Rambling On', czy pochodzacy z wydanej w 1991 roku plyty 'Prodigal Stranger', 'Holding On'. Muzycy swietnie zgrani, BROOKER mimo uplywu lat w znakomitej formie wokalnej, zartujacy z publicznoscia i opowiadajacy historie z przeszlosci. W takiej atmosferze czas uplywal niezwykle szybko. Na zakonczenie zasadniczej czesci koncertu PROCOL HARUM wykonali instrumentalne 'Repent Walpurgis' i pozegnali sie. Burza oklasków, owacja na stojaco sprawila, ze muzycy raz jeszcze pojawili sie na scenie i zagrali... oczywiscie to, na co wszyscy czekali. Przy 'A Whiter Shade Of Pale' nie bylo juz siedzacej osoby.

Songs like Conquistador, Salad Days (Are Here Again), Shine on Brightly, Rambling On thru to Prodigal Stranger [sic] and Holding On with the band playing as well together as ever! And even though so many years had passed Gary Brooker's voice is still as good if not better. He filled the evening with lots of jokes and stories of years past in between the songs. The night flew with a great atmosphere and at the end of the show PH played the instrumental Repent Walpurgis to a standing ovation then left the stage to return and play AWSoP. No one could sit, wanting to show their love and admiration for this great band.

Nie wierzylem do konca w powodzenie tego wystepu. Jakze sie mylilem i bardzo sie z tego ciesze. Wszak koncert PROCOL HARUM w Sopocie udowodnil, ze Prawdziwa Muzyka nie umarla.

Till the end I didn't believe this would have been a successful concert, but was I ever wrong and how glad I am to say that. The Procol Harum concert proved that truly great music is not gone from this band and that they represent only the best.
