Brooker, Dunn, Pegg, Phillips, Whitehorn
If you were able to get to this gig, please send
us all your pictures, memorabilia, interviews and so forth!
The VIP Room Homburg ('some Italian group named Dik Dik did this: all I know is the group was Dik Dik'. Actually it was I Camaleonti!) Typewriter Torment (Pegg brilliantly lays out all of the Cartwright notes) Beyond the Pale (drumming was outrageously brilliant) Grand Hotel Simple Sister The Milk of Human Kindness Fat Cats ('I'm getting a little old to play that fast anymore') For Liquorice John ('for our friend Dave who one day couldn't take any more so he jumped from the top of a church') Pandora's Box Seem to Have the Blues (Most all of the Time) (one of the best solos Josh has played) Whisky Train ('I don't need a small one, I need a grappa in the opening'. Drum solos get better and better) This World is Rich ('words by Stephen Maboe from South Africa') Into the Flood (mid-section orchestrated through Yamaha Motif) A Salty Dog ('my friend Zucchero did this last year'. Man, can Dunn punctuate this! Gary with Latin ending – massive standing ovation!) Conquistador Encore A Whiter Shade of Pale (Air opening right into first verse, and again restructuring of the organ passage after each verse, except before last repeat; but a smoother presentation last time around but very similar yet not exact – massive applause with multiple 'Bravo's!) |
The band arrived at only
8.30 pm after a terrible
day. They were stuck at Naples airport from 7.30 am when they arrived for the check-in of a flight to Verona that was supposed to leave at 10.00am. After hours of waiting the flight was finally cancelled and they had to reschedule all their journey, flying Naples to Milan and then by 'bus to Garda (some 150 kms). This led to a very quick soundcheck because the public had been waiting outside since 7.30. Full story here A Rum Tale About to Die (a few seconds' guitar from GW) GD asked to reposition his entire kit (he didn't like the drums placed on the riser). In total just 15 minutes' soundcheck from 9.00 to 9.15 Thanks, Stefano |
