Procol Harum's 40th Anniversary

A first miscellany of pictures from Jeremy Gilien

BtP presentsProcol Harum's 40th Birthday Celebrations 20 / 21 July 2007

This upended cable case outside Studio One at Southend's NightFly Studio became the shop where
George Lovell sold and signed copies of his excellent Procol Harum memoir,
The Waiter Brought a Tray

NightFly studios: seated one day at the organ, Peter slips a Bb cornet break
into The Milk of Human Kindness as Ian Hockley looks on

Paler arms on some than on others

The Palers' Band rehearses Simple Sister with Dave Ball on guitar (not pictured): this is the chattering pianos
build-up section in the middle of the song: pianists are Antonio, Don, Peter, Søren and Roland

Son and father share a piano at the end of Simple Sister: Ian looks on, as does
Benny Tworek, Hammond-player from Denmark's 'Procol Harum Project'

The Palers' Band coach is about to leave Southend-on-Sea, after four days' rehearsal, for London. Claus Nielsen and Jeff Levine
are shown  as well as Roland and Jens from BtP. We board the vehicle, supplied by BJS Travel, in Wilson Street

The fine Klais pipe-organ was the first sound heard by the St John's Smith Square audience
at the 'Procol Rarum' show on 21 July: Ian Hockley was  the recitalist. But here Jeremy Gilien,
also a church organist, samples the instrument at Palers' Band sound-check time

Gary Brooker and Dave Ball play the previously-unknown Brooker / Reid song,
Yours if you Want Me
, at BtP's 'Procol Rarum' show on 21 July

Roland and Jens from 'Beyond the Pale' with Gary Brooker and Keith Reid at the end
of the 'Procol Rarum' evening: at this moment Roland is talking about pizza

Gary Brooker and Keith Reid at the end of the 'Procol Rarum' evening: Gary is holding one of the two
Bristol Blue glass trophies presented by BtP on behalf of fans of the duo's songwriting worldwide

Post-show celebrations in the crypt at St John's, Smith Square: Dave Ball,
Gary Brooker (in Brooker/Reid tee-shirt) and Juliette Leonhardt among others

More of the above!
