My Girl was the Temptations' number. GB started up the riff and began to sing and the band joined in pronti. I assumed it was going to lead into some other number (as they used to do with NBtT) but Gary wound it up after a verse, saying 'We don't do that one' or some such thing. Then of course (as with Imagine at Croydon) they went straight back into the song and completed it in fine style. They last played it, to our knowledge, in Southend in 1993 RC Phil Hayes adds I dislike the rearrangement of As Strong As Samson. On the other hand Whisky Train, not my favorite on record, really sounded great as reworked. The most pleasant surprise was Memorial Drive – a little Trower tribute there at the end of the show. |
