Obwohl die Band erst wenige Monate zuvor gegründet worden war, erlebte sie bereits 1967 mit A Whiter Shade Of Pale (zu deutsch: Ein Schatten weißer als bleich), das Brooker auf Vorlage einer Bach-Kantate komponiert hatte, ihren ultimativen Höhepunkt. Bis heute sind weit über fünf Millionen Tonträger mit diesem Song über den Ladentisch gegangen. Alben wie Grand Hotel (1973), Exotic Birds And Fruit (1974) und Procol´s Ninth (1975) entpuppten sich als Meisterwerke, das Bühnenwerk Live In Concert With The Edmonton Symphonie Orchestra (1972) gilt sogar als Meilenstein der Rockgeschichte.

Although the band was founded only a few months ago [sic], it got the experience of the ultimative highlight in 1967 with A Whiter Shade of Pale (German: Ein Schatten weißer als Bleich), composed by Brooker after a submission of a Bach-cantata [sic]. Still today about five million records of this song are sold. Records like Grand Hotel (1973), Exotic Birds And Fruit (1974) and Procol's Ninth (1975) turned out to be masterpieces, the stage-production [sic] Live In Concert With theEdmonton Orchestra (1972) [sic] is to be seen as a milestone of rock-history.
