The Commander, about to begin a song
Matthew Celestial Smith, about to choose his registration
A white jacket for Gary ... it was Matthew who wore
white on the Danish dates.
But we're not implying that they share a single jacket,
of course.
Unusual to see Matthew at the C3, though that seemed
a standard instrument in Copping days
Gary playing from The Book of Orchids ... which has
words, not chords, in it.
The organist's left hand close to the Leslie switch,
while the Leslie itself sits to his right on its trolley
We believe this ultra-sturdy piano stand travels
with the band, though the keyboard itself is hired in situ. It doesn't
always get used ... but Gary never plays on the x-shaped, ironing-board
style stands.
The floor monitor, behind, was not giving Matthew
the mix he wanted on the night: too much piano.
Gary searches for a song. During the last number
he announced 'Eilish Gorse, 40 today, turn a whiter shade of pale': indeed,
Eilish took these pictures for BtP with the camera that was her birthday
present ... thanks ! :-)

A golden light suffuses the organist ... somehow
more Celestial?
