We've seen a number of questions, both direct to BtP and on The Beanstalk (our friendly Procol Harum message list) about the Salvo series of 14 Procol re-releases, including the re-mastered Reid/Fisher AWSoP single. We suggest that interested fans sign up for the Salvo mailing list ... click here.

The re-issue of AWSoP can now be pre-ordered from Amazon UK: details here. Order now to get yourself a nice collector's item (and maybe help AWSoP back in the charts?)

July 23:

As people have left or are leaving London after celebrating Procol Harum's 40th Anniversary: here is the first review of Saturday's celebration (thanks, Charlie)

More information will surely follow, as people come home from the anniversary and are able to send their pictures, comments or reviews to BtP – and when the BtP team is back in their homes and can find time to edit it all, and update the website without having to pay high charges for use of hotels' wi-fi internet connections.

July 22: Details of last night's  'Gary Brooker and Guests - Procol Rarum' concert will follow soon – sorry, we just have too much fun right now!

Added the first review of Friday's 40th Anniversary Procol Harum concert. More reviews and pictures will surely follow (thanks Charlie)

July 21: BtP presents The 40th Birthday Party of Procol Harum in London, and the 'Procol Rarum' show'

Setlist and full report from last night's 40th Anniversary concert in London will follow soon, but right now we are too busy. But what we can say is this: sold-out venue, full of enthusiastic fans. Two new songs, one of them never heard before, even on soundchecks ('we in the band heard it first time on Wednesday' Geoff Whitehorn later told BtP). The band was great and the audience very appreciative.

Added the second part of the BtP interview with Richard Brown which we conducted several years ago (thanks, Richard)

The Palers' Band finished their rehearsals in Southend today in very good mood; we ended the evening with a band dinner at a Chinese Restaurant in Southend.

Added the first part of the BtP interview with Richard Brown which we conducted several years ago (thanks, Richard)

July 19:

It was ten years ago today that Shine On held their famous Redhill Procol 30th Anniversary party, the template for a decade of fans' gatherings ... where the webmasters of 'Beyond the Pale' met for the first time and decided to create the present website.

Added a fragment of parody here in anticipation of tomorrow's Procol Harum gig in London (thanks, Sheila)

Added the first photos of Palers' Band rehearsing in Southend

Follow this link to vote for your favourite single of 1967's Summer of Love (thanks, Joseph)

July 18:

The Procol Harum show on 20 July is sold out in terms of regular seating, but there are unreserved seats at the sides of the auditorium, and possibly balcony places as well. Contact the venue for details of how to get tickets for these seats.

Gary Brooker and his Guests are playing the 'Procol Rarum' gig the following day: there are still seats for this unique glimpse of the Lost Songs of Brooker and Reid: click here

The party where the Palers are to play is sold out, due to limited capacity in the restaurant, where part of this arrangement will be held. But if you didn't get your tickets in time, here is another option: we can accept more guests to the part of this event that is held in the SJSS main hall between 2pm and 4pm.  To book your tickets, simply use the 'Donate' button further up on this page. Donate 10 GBP or 20 USD for each ticket you want, and send us a mail. (thanks to everyone who took advantage of this extra option: good to see you all!)

Added a page of pictures taken at the time of Procol's Neapolitan soundcheck earlier this month (thanks, Allen)

July 17:

The 2007 Palers' Band started its rehearsals in Southend today with 16 of the 26 members already present. About 40 percent of the songs have had their first run through, and it looks as it will be very good by the time we play them in London this coming weekend.

If you plan to attend the Procol Harum 40th Anniversary celebrations with Procol Harum on 20 July and 'Procol Rarum' on 21 July, and have not bought your tickets yet: don't hesitate. Only a handful of tickets left for Friday. Booking through the venue: St John's, Smith Square, London.

A reminder that 'Beyond the Pale' hosts a chat-list for Procol Harum fans – The Beanstalk – which may be accessed here. Contrary to some people's impressions, this is an unmoderated list: the mails that fans write go to all subscribers at the same time (the webmasters don't preview them, nor do they hold anything back). Over-large messages are returned automatically by the software, with a message that may give the impression that they are 'moderated', and postings from non-subscribers are discarded to prevent spamming, but don't be misled: the only censorship on the Beanstalk is self-censorship (hence the rubric on the sign-up page) which – we trust – will ensure that people keep on-topic and don't post anything hurtful to other readers. Outside that sensible and humane consideration, all shades of opinion are of course welcome.
